Legendary rocker Carlos Santana will be hitting the road this summer for seemingly the 236th time in his illustrious career. Last week, he announced the first series of dates in support of his upcoming album, 'Shape Shifter,' which will be released on May 15 on his own Starfaith label.

Billed as Carlos Santana and the Santana Band, the guitarist announced ten dates in the United States and Canada in July, with shows split between sheds and casinos. These concerts are in addition to Santana's two-year residency at the House of Blues in the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, which begins on May 2. Road warrior that he is, we can expect more dates to be announced soon.

After spending the past 12 years making star-filled crossover albums, 'Shape Shifter' puts the emphasis back where it belongs, on Santana's guitar playing. Twelve of its 13 songs are instrumentals, which means Rob Thomas, Macy Gray and Will.i.am are thankfully nowhere to be found. Santana has dedicated 'Shape Shifter' to the American Indians.
