As veteran rock ‘n’ roller Robert Plant continues to trek across the U.S. with his Band of Joy, one concert, in particular, will be gratifying. The former Led Zeppelin singer will pick up the Montreal International Jazz Festival’s Spirit award when he croons at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier of Place des Arts in Montreal, Canada, June 24, reports the Montreal Gazette.

The award, started in 2006, is said to pay tribute to “a popular artist’s extraordinary contribution to the musical world.” Rock icons seem a favorite for the honor. All of the past winners are in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame: Paul Simon (2006), Bob Dylan (2007), Leonard Cohen (2008), Stevie Wonder (2009) and Smokey Robinson (2010).

Add this to a killer showing at Bonnaroo a few weeks back, and it seems 2011 is the year of Robert Plant. It’s about time, right guys?

Plant’s Band of Joy members include Patty Griffin (vocals), Darrell Scott (multiple instruments, vocals), Byron House (bass, vocals), Marco Giovino (drums, percussion, vocals) and co-producer Buddy Miller (guitar, vocals).
