Journey is set to receive one of the more exclusive rock awards during a ceremony next month in New York City. They'll be named the 2011 Legend of Live recipients during the annual Billboard Touring Awards.

Billboard reports that Journey will follow in the footsteps of Rush (2010), Ozzy Osbourne (2009) and the Allman Brothers Band (2008) as winners of the prestigious honor. "Though they have sold millions of records and charted a wealth of the most beloved Billboard hits in history, most would agree that Journey's longevity has in large part been driven by their stellar live performances," Billboard Executive Director of Content and Programming for Touring and Live Entertainment Ray Waddell said.

It seems unlikely that original frontman Steve Perry will be on hand to accept the award however. As recently as last month he rebuffed invitations to appear with his former bandmates on stage. Perhaps a less formal setting will be more to the 62-year-old's liking. He is still quite sociable with fans of his and the band's music.

Guitarist Neal Schon spoke on behalf of the band. "I'm so honored to come to New York to represent the band for all the years and dedication that everyone's given," he said in the Billboard article. The awards are on Nov. 10 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City.
