Two of the most important bands in rock history -- the Rolling Stones and the Yardbirds -- meet in the newest round of the 100 percent fan-voted Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame.

Every month, our readers will decide which of eight legendary artists or bands will be honored for their contributions to the genre. And to start off, we've got a pair that both came out of the British blues scene and proved to be incredibly influential, albeit in different ways.

The Rolling Stones hit the ground in 1963 and haven't stopped running since. Along the way, they became the gold standard for a rock n' roll band -- namely that you can achieve anything with just a handful of chords (courtesy of Keith Richards), a rock-solid rhythm section and, in Mick Jagger, a charismatic frontman.

While the Yardbirds had plenty of hits during their 1964-68 run, most notably 'For Your Love,' 'Heart Full of Soul' and 'Shapes of Things,' it's their trio of guitarists who went on to greater fame -- Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page -- that solidifies their place in rock history.

So who will move on to the semifinals? That's entirely up to you. You can vote once an hour between now and Monday, Dec. 15 at 11:59PM ET. This month’s winner will be announced on Dec. 29. Be sure to read our official rules.
