Gary Rossington Hospitalized, Lynyrd Skynyrd Postpones Concerts
Bad news if you've got tickets to this weekend's (Feb. 15 and 16) Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts at the Hard Rock in Biloxi, Miss.: An illness has forced the band to cancel.
Guitarist Gary Rossington, a Skynyrd founder as well as its only remaining original member, has had to seek medical attention for a nasty-sounding bug. As a statement released by the band explains, Rossington "has been hospitalized in Wyoming with an abdominal infection. We are awaiting further tests and treatment, once we receive information on Gary’s status we will release additional information. Thank you for your understanding and support."
It's an unfortunate setback for the hard-touring band, which has been a more or less constant fixture on the road since its somewhat controversial reunion in 1987 -- and although Skynyrd's ever-shifting lineup has included more than two dozen members since 1964, it'd be pretty tough to go on without Rossington.
Whatever bug he's got wreaking havoc in his system, Rossington now has a little bit of time to get back on his feet before his services are called for; the next scheduled stop on the band's tour is Feb. 23, at the Coushatta Casino Resort Pavilion in Kinder, La. Here's hoping for a quick and painless recovery.
