Watch Bruce Springsteen Join Brian Wilson Onstage
Wilson was completing his appearance at the PNC Bank Arts Center with fellow former Beach Boys Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin, when New Jersey's favorite son appeared side stage. He then joins the band for "Barbara Ann" and "Surfin' U.S.A.," as roadies scurry about trying to find a guitar for Springsteen to play.
Afterward, Springsteen, Jardine and Chaplin – best known as the singer on the 1973 Beach Boys gem "Sail On Sailor," from their Holland album – briefly formed a tight circle during "Surfin' U.S.A.," before Chaplin and Springsteen shared a mic for the soaring chorus. Springsteen then gaves Chaplin a huge hug. Wilson's band played Springsteen off with a uptempo take on "Fun, Fun, Fun."
Both Chaplin and Jardine, a childhood friend of Wilson's, appear on the latter's new solo album, No Pier Pressure. His ongoing tour hits Boston tonight, followed by dates in Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Las Vegas and Seattle through the end of the month. A planned European trip, which Wilson said would be his last, has been postponed because of commitments in the U.S. surrounding the recently released Love and Mercy biopic. Those dates, slated to begin in September, have been moved to 2016.
