The Ballad of Jethro Tull, a new book chronicling the band’s 50-year history, will be released in November. Frontman Ian Anderson has confirmed it will include new recorded material.

Word about The Ballad of Jethro Tull first broke last October. At the time, Anderson described the project as “the definitive Jethro Tull story – as told by Jethro Tull.” He took to YouTube to announce release details, while also giving fans insight on what to expect (see below).

Author Mark Blake pulled together the words, with Anderson overseeing every aspect of its completion. Current and former members of the band also contributed to the book, which will feature personal stories, previously unseen photos, original press clippings and album artwork.

The Ballad of Jethro Tull is expected in November, though a specific release date has yet to be finalized. Two editions of the book will be made: the "Classic" version and the "Signature Edition," which will be limited to just 500 copies.

The "Signature Edition" features a new Jethro Tull 7" single, with material recorded specifically for the project. Its A-side contains a narrative poem written and read by Anderson called The Ballad of Jethro Tull, accompanied by “a unique and original mix of classic Tull music.”

The B-side will feature Anderson reading Walter Scott’s 1808 poem Marmion, with musical backing composed and performed by Jethro Tull band member John O’Hara on a cathedral organ.

Even though the new material will not come in physical form on the "Classic" edition, accompanying download codes will allow buyers to access both recordings.

Fans can pre-order the book now at the band's website. Meanwhile, Jethro Tull continue to tour in celebration of their 50th anniversary. Upcoming performances take the band throughout Europe and North American, with dates scheduled through the end of 2019.
