Sammy Hagar’s Home Damaged in Hurricane
Sammy Hagar's home was damaged as Hurricane Odile slammed into Cabo San Lucas, packing Category 3-level 125 mph winds on Sunday night. The former Montrose and Van Halen frontman reports that his Cabo Wabo Cantina, however, was largely untouched -- and that there were no injuries to report.
"The Cantina is fine, just a little water damage," Hagar says via Facebook. "It's unbelievable that none of our employees or anyone we know has been hurt so far -- a real miracle. No one was hurt, but my house got tore up pretty good. It went directly over my house, and blew the windows out."
Hagar opened the first Cabo Wabo in 1990. By 2009, he had also launched a series of restaurants called Sammy Hagar's Beach Bar and Grill, including one in Atlantic City that was wrecked by Hurricane Sandy. Hagar later permanently closed the location.
Odile was expected to weaken into Tuesday, becoming a tropical storm as it moved up the Baja California peninsula, according to the National Hurricane Center. More than 160 shelters had been opened, with a capacity of 30,000 people, for fleeing locals and tourists visiting the Cabo San Lucas area.
