Ozzy Osbourne vs. U2 – Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame, Round One
This round of the 100 percent fan-voted Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame is a clash between the Prince of Darkness and a gang of righteous do-gooders, as Ozzy Osbourne takes on U2 for the right to move on to the semifinals.
By the time he released his first solo album, 'Blizzard of Ozz,' in 1980, Osbourne had already been an established star for a decade through his work in Black Sabbath. Over the next 34 years, he would go from being declared by some as the scourge of society to a beloved elder statesman of rock. And while he's also known as a reality TV star, a large part of his legacy involves introducing the world to a variety of future guitar legends.
Formed in 1976 by schoolmates in Dublin, U2 would take four years to get signed to a major label, but there was no looking back once they did. After gaining a foothold with 'Boy,' they spent the '80s going from college radio favorites to one of the biggest bands of the planet, while mixing pop smarts, sonic innovation and political activism. They remain a major stadium rock act, whose every new release is a global event.
So will it be Ozzy or U2? That’s all up to you. You can vote once an hour between now and Aug. 17, 2014 at 11:59PM ET. The winner will be announced on Sept. 2. Don’t forget to read our official rules.
