Legendary guitarist Michael Bloomfield's new box set will take fans 'From His Head to His Heart to His Hands' on Feb. 4 -- but if you don't want to wait, you can enjoy an early sample from the career-spanning compilation right now.

As we previously reported, the 3-CD/1-DVD box runs the gamut from Bloomfield's first demos through to his final live performance, recorded during a Bob Dylan concert in 1980. Produced by his friend and frequent collaborator Al Kooper, it features selections from Bloomfield's solo career, as well as recordings culled from his stints and sessions with other groups and artists. As an additional treat for fans, the set packs in the new documentary 'Sweet Blues: A Film About Michael Bloomfield,' which combines archival footage with new interviews.

"He had a certain innate talent for playing the guitar that was instantly obvious to his mentors. They knew this was not just another white boy; this was someone who truly understood what the blues were all about," wrote Kooper in a 2001 essay for Gadfly. "He was years ahead of everyone. His melodic sense and feel were incomparable. I saw him outfox Hendrix one night in an after-hours duel."

Of particular interest to collectors, 'From His Head to His Heart to His Hands' also boasts a handful of previously unreleased recordings -- including 'Santana Clause,' a live performance recorded at the Fillmore East, which you can stream courtesy of the link embedded below.
