The next Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame battle of 2014 finds Metallica and Stevie Ray Vaughan fighting for the right to claim this 100-percent fan-voted honor.

That's right: Our readers decide which of eight legendary artists or bands will be honored for their contributions to the genre in this regularly held contest. Def Leppard won the most recent competition, defeating Van Halen in a landslide.

This time, you'll be deciding between two standard bearers from much different parts of the musical world. On one hand, you have Metallica -- a thrash band that made it big with a signature yowl and big riffs. On the other, there's Vaughan -- a bone-deep Texas bluesman who helped revitalize a moribund genre.

Metallica's tough, fast 1986 triumph ‘Master of Puppets’ is every bit the landmark recording that Vaughan's genre-jumping 'Couldn't Stand the Weather' had been two years earlier. Vaughan's breakout contributions on David Bowie's 1983 comeback album 'Let's Dance' are every bit as well known outside of their core fan base as Metallica's 1990 self-titled project was.

So who moves onto the semi-finals? You can vote once a day between now and Monday, Oct. 20th, at 11:59PM ET. The winner will be revealed on Nov. 4. Be sure to read our official rules.
