Huey Lewis to Celebrate 30 Years of ‘Sports’ With Tour, Remastered Release + TV Appearances
Indiana University has an elite basketball program and Huey Lewis is everywhere. 2013 may feel like 1983 beginning next week, when Huey Lewis and the News begin a celebration of the 30th anniversary of 'Sports,' their historic, multi-platinum album featuring many of their best-known hits. A tour is set to begin in May.
'Sports' was second in popularity to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' album in 1984. 'If This Is It,' 'I Want a New Drug,' 'Heart and Soul' and 'The Heart of Rock & Roll' are the four biggest tracks, although 'Walking on a Thin Line' was also a Top 20 hit. Remastered studio versions and live versions of all nine tracks make up the two-disc remastered deluxe edition set for a May 14 release.
Over three dozen dates for the Sports 30th Anniversary Tour were also announced in a press release on Wednesday (March 27). The band -- featuring '83 members Johnny Colla, Bill Gibson and Sean Hopper -- will hit the road on May 10, and play through Aug. 26 before wrapping up in Knoxville, Tenn.
To kick off the festivities, Huey Lewis and the News will perform on 'Dancing With the Stars' on April 2, and 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' on May 15. More US and international tour dates are expected to be announced.
