Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins said he expected the band to start work on its new album at the end of its brief U.K. tour, which runs until Aug. 25.

Their current live schedule includes six further appearances between mid-September and early December, which suggests they'll have time available to start developing the follow-up to 2017’s Concrete and Gold.

“From what I've heard from our fearless leader Dave Grohl, he has a lot of demos that he's worked on,” Hawkins told Rock Sound in a recent interview. “I think we'll start once this tour is over, this little U.K.-ish run ... I think not too soon after that, we'll start the process of putting the songs together as a band. ... It's a long process. We do a lot of demoing and stuff. … I think we'll have a new record by next year. We should.”

Last year, Grohl discussed the concept of what would be the Foo Fighters’ 10th studio album, telling Billboard, "When we start making records, it’s almost like I don’t hear the songs – I can see the songs In my head. … I don’t read music; I can see the songs in shapes and patterns. So I can see the next record. I know that there’s another one there. I don't know when, but I think I know what we should do.”

Concrete and Gold debuted at No. 1 when it was released in September 2017. It's the band's second chart-topping LP, following 2011's Wasting Light.
