Aerosmith were forced to cancel plans for show in Istanbul, Turkey tonight due to a horrible mining accident in the nearby town of Soma. At least 200 local miners were killed and hundreds more were trapped after an explosion occurred in the mine.

In an official statement, lead singer Steven Tyler expressed his regret and offered condolences to those whose lives were lost. “My heartfelt prayers go out to those who have died, those who are still trapped and their families. We are holding the people of Turkey close to our hearts and respecting the three days of mourning for a saddened nation.”

Lead guitarist Joe Perry echoed Tyler’s sentiment. “I feel profound sorrow for the workers and their families who have been killed or injured in this terrible disaster,” he said. “As soon as I heard the news, I called my wife in America and me and my family's hearts and prayers go out to the families and workers who were killed or injured. Words can't express the sorrow that we feel.”

The proposed show at the Istanbul Technical University was supposed to be the first the band had ever played in that country.
