The Who Reveal Details of Expanded ‘Tommy’ Box
The Who's 'Tommy' is returning to stores on Nov. 12, and he's put on a few pounds since the last time we saw him.
As we previously reported, the band is reissuing its classic 1969 concept record with freshly remastered sound, as well as an array of expanded editions that seek to supplant the original version's spot in your record collection with rare and previously unreleased material, including a stack of live tracks long thought to be lost.
For the moderately hardcore fan, the 'Deluxe Edition' reissue offers 20 'Tommy' demos from Pete Townshend's archive, as well as a full live performance of the album, mostly recorded during the band's show at the Capital Theatre in Ottowa, Canada, on Oct. 15, 1969. Although Townshend ordered the tapes destroyed after the gig, they've survived, thanks to engineer Bob Pridden's disobedience.
The limited 'Super Deluxe' edition takes all that and adds more goodies for the truly faithful Who fan, including a 5.1 surround sound mix of the record (created using the new Hi-Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-ray format) and a hardback 80-page full-color book featuring rare period photos, memorabilia, a 20,000-word essay by legendary Who aficionado Richard Barnes and a rare facsimile 'Tommy' poster, all housed in a hardback deluxe slipcase. Take a look at the complete track listing below.
