War Vs. Led Zeppelin – Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame, Round One
After two very surprising defeats at the hands of Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin begin their third campaign for Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame immortality against the aptly named War.
Each month, our readers will determine which of eight legendary artists or bands is immortalized forever for their contributions to classic-rock history. Led Zeppelin, arguably the most popular and influential hard-rock band of all time, have reached the finals each of the past two months, only to lose to Rod Stewart and then to his former group the Faces. They will endure a six-month exile from this competition if they don't win it all this time.
They're up against War, who began life as the backing group for former Animals singer Eric Burdon, but soon struck out on their own with a sound that blended rock, soul, jazz and funk. They went on to spend much of the '70s crafting million-selling albums and eternal radio anthems such as 'Why Can't We Be Friends' and 'Low Rider.'
So who are you going to vote for? Will Led Zeppelin kick off their third campaign with a victory, or will War march on to the next battle? The choice is up to you. You can vote once a day until Sunday, Dec. 15, at 11:59 PM EST, and the winner will be announced Jan. 6, 2014. Be sure to read our official rules here.
