The Scorpions’ ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane’ takes on Ozzy Osbourne’s ‘Crazy Train' in round one of Ultimate Classic Rock's March Riff Madness competition.

With much difficulty, we've selected 32 of classic rock's most iconic riffs and paired them off in 16 first-round duels. Over the next five weeks the field will be repeatedly cut in half by your votes, until we theoretically arrive at the most awesome riff in all of rock history.

This particular match-up contrasts trains and hurricanes, so take your pick. Germany’s Scorpions built from strength-to-strength throughout the ’70’s before breaking worldwide in the next decade, and no single riff represented them better, or more universally, than the one for ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane.’

Ozzy Osbourne famously survived a messy divorce from Black Sabbath to best his old cronies in the ‘80s, but the story may have played out quite differently without the catalyzing presence of guitarist Randy Rhoads (R.I.P.), and his many game-changing riffs, like the one driving ‘Crazy Train.’

So who will win this contest between reluctant peers? You can vote once per hour until round one of March Riff Madness closes on Sunday, March 9 at 11:59PM ET. The final winner will be announced on April 7.
