Paul McCartney was a special guest for Bruce Springsteen's finale on Saturday Night Live, joining in for a raucous performance of "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town." The E Street Band, show hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and other cast members were also on stage. Watch the entire performance above.

This was the first SNL performance for the E Street Band since 2002. Springsteen tweeted a photo of himself and McCartney backstage from the same account which earlier hinted that something big was in the works: "Got a few surprises in store for #SpringsteenSNL tonight ... and make sure to stay up for the end credits!"

Springsteen had earlier appeared with McCartney during the 12-12-12 Sandy-benefit concert and at the Grammys but perhaps most memorably was cut off during a London show after they played the Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Twist and Shout." Thankfully, no such mishaps accompanied the show last night (Dec. 19).

Earlier in the evening, Springsteen performed selections from an expanded reissue of his 1980 album The River, titled The Ties That Bind. He debuted "Meet Me in the City" – one of the box set's many unreleased tracks – as well as the reissue's title track, which originally opened The River. Late E Street Band legend Clarence Clemons' nephew Jake Clemons was featured on saxophone.

Springsteen, who has announced a River-themed tour in support of this new box, recently appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, as well.
