Motorhead Now Has Their Own Brand of Whisky
Lemmy Kilmister has been living a much cleaner life these days, but the newest Motorhead product promises to test his resolve. The band is launching a signature whisky on Oct. 1, produced at an award-winning distillery in Sweden.
“Life is less painful with Motorhead Whisky,” Lemmy says, on the Motorhead Drinks website. “I may consider having a sip now and then.”
Motorhead played an active role in choosing casks and blends before signing off on the whisky. This new product joins previously launched band-themed beer, wine and vodka in the Motorhead Drinks line. Motorhead Whisky will initially debut at Systembolaget stores in Sweden, beginning with a limited-edition batch. It was aged five years in American oak barrels before being transferred to oloroso oak barrels for the last six months.
“We think it’s great fun to launch a whisky in collaboration with a Swedish, world-famous distillery, Mackmyra," Motorhead drummer Mikkey Dee adds. "The whisky is incredibly good, with full character and fully flavored with a superb bourbon touch, as it’s been aged in new American oak casks. All of us in the band have been active in the production process and are very proud over the result, and are happy to now launch such a great, characteristic whisky, Motorhead-style.”
This caps a busy day for libations sponsored by legendary metal bands. AC/DC earlier announced that their branded beer, initially available only in Europe, will now be available in their native Australia. AC/DC also has its own wine and an energy drink – called High Voltage, of course.
