Melvins Reveal 2019 Tour, Plan to Release ‘a Ton’ of New Music
The Melvins will spend 10 weeks touring the United States this fall, and fans of the group can also expect a diverse array of new music and reissues in the coming months.
Redd Kross and ShitKid will join the Melvins for the tour, which kicks off Sept. 3 in San Diego and wraps up Nov. 5 in Las Vegas. In a press release singer / guitarist Buzz Osbourne says the groups are "two of my favorites. We’ve already done fantastic European tours with both of these bands, so I know bringing them out with us on this trip will be a total mind blower for the lucky fans."
In the most recent of the Melvins' ever-shifting lineups, the core duo of Osbourne and drummer Dale Crover will be joined by bassist Steven McDonald. In addition, McDonald is a founding member of Redd Kross and will be performing with both groups each night. Crover will also perform double duty at every show.
Later this year, Ipecac Records will issue a combined vinyl reissue of the band's 1999 albums The Maggot and The Bootlicker. In addition, Osbourne says the band has been particularly busy in the studio recently. "It's a ton of stuff. I think in the past two months we've recorded 35 songs," he tells Coachella Valley Weekly. "We have a split-EP with the Flipper guys coming out. We have an EP with a band from Sweden called ShitKid coming out soon. We have a Melvins project with me, Dale and the original drummer (Mike Dillard, with whom the group also reunited on 2013's Tres Cabrones and parts of 2016's Basses Loaded) that we’re working on. I also have a solo acoustic album (the follow-up to 2014's This Machine Kills Artists) I’m finishing."
Melvins fans who have grown accustomed to unexpected collaborations and creative directions will be happy to know that according to Osbourne, yet another surprise is also in the works. "We have another album, that I can’t really let the cat out of the bag on that one yet, that we’re working on."
