Melvins Cover the Beatles’ ‘I Want to Tell You,’ Announce New Tour
Melvins have released a cover of the Beatles' "I Want to Tell You" in advance of the June 3 release of their new studio album Basses Loaded.
The title reflects the fact that the album features group stalwarts Buzz Osborne (guitars, vocals) and Dale Crover (drums) performing with no less than six different bassists, including former Nirvana star Krist Novoselic.
The innovative hard rock group, whom Osborne describes as "what Captain Beefheart would do if he played heavy metal," have frequently covered classic rock songs in the past, including a 2012 take on Paul McCartney's "Let Me Roll It."
Despite our persistent begging, this preview comes courtesy of the Wall Street Journal, who also broke the news that Melvins will be touring in support of Basses Loaded throughout August and September. You can see all the tour dates below.
Osborne explains that he's been wanting to cover "I Want to Tell You" for a long time, and reveals that for him part of the song's charm come via a "slightly out of tune" vocal. “And I have no problem with slightly out of tune vocals,” he jokes.
You can learn more about Basses Loaded, listen to three other songs and pre-order a copy of it at their Bandcamp page.
