Jane's Addiction recently hit the airwaves with 'End to the Lies,' the first single off their upcoming album, 'The Great Escape Artist,' which is set to drop in the late summer.

It's been a while since Jane's Addiction have graced us with new music, as their last album, 'Strays,' came out eight years ago. In the interim, singer Perry Farrell put out a very solid album, 'Ultra Payloaded,' with his group Satellite Party. Meanwhile, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins teamed up for the short-lived group the Panic Channel, who released the disc '(ONe).'

After a brief reunion with original bassist Eric Avery for a number of live show between 2008 and 2010, Jane's Addiction tapped former Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan to start working on a new album. However, McKagan soon parted ways with the group as well, leaving the band with no bassist.

Now, with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek and off-and-on Jane's Addiction touring member Chris Chaney both filling in on bass, the band is wrapping up work on the disc, 'The Great Escape Artist.'

On the album's first single, 'End to the Lies,' Jane's Addiction embrace the hard-hitting sounds of their early discs while incorporating some of the ethereal vibes of Farrell's solo and Satellite Party efforts. The singer's signature echo-laden vocals take center stage on the song, but there's plenty of room for Navarro's tripped-out guitars and a mighty drum track from Perkins.

Lyrically, Farrell pulls no punches on this cut, which apparently serves as a "screw you" to someone who has wronged him. From the opening line, "You sit around there telling stories / Taking chips from old past glories," Farrell offers clever wordplay throughout the tune. Among the song's most intriguing lyrics are "You talk about me so much / That I think that you're in love with me / Yeah, you do, it's true man, your busted."

'End to the Lies' marks a powerful return to the studio for Jane's Addiction, and should leave fans with great expectations for the album 'The Great Escape Artist.' A just-released video for the track can be viewed here.
