J. Geils Band Hit the Road Without J. Geils
The J. Geils Band are hitting the road this week for a tour that will run through mid-January 2015. Most of the dates will find them supporting Bob Seger, but on all of the dates, the band's namesake guitarist will be absent.
Original members Peter Wolf (vocals), Seth Justman (keyboards), Danny Klein (bass) and Magic Dick (harmonica) will be joined by guitarists Duke Levine and Kevin Barry and drummer Tom Arey.
The group kicks off the Houseparty 2014-15 Tour with a handful of headlining shows that start on Nov. 14 in Detroit. On Nov. 22, they'll join Seger for his arena dates in support of his new album, 'Ride Out' -- a run of concerts that continues through the end of January.
They'll be playing shows in Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, New York and Toronto, among other cities. You can see the band's entire itinerary below.
The group hasn't released an album in 30 years, when 'You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd,' which was recorded without Wolf, stalled at No. 80. They last toured in 2012, also without founding guitarist Geils, who sued his former bandmates for use of the group's name. In 1982, the year after they released their only No. 1 album, 'Freeze Frame,' all of the band members signed a document that prevented them from using the group's moniker individually.
