Martin Scorsese's documentary on the life of George Harrison, 'Living in the Material World,' will air in two parts Oct. 5 and 6 on HBO.

The film traces Harrison's life from his early days in Liverpool through his life as a musician, spiritual explorer, filmmaker and all-around icon.

Interviews with his former Beatles bandmates Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney, as well as friends like Eric Clapton are also included.

Scorsese says, "When I was offered the chance to make this picture, I jumped at it. Spending time with Olivia, interviewing so many of George’s closest friends, reviewing all that footage, some of it never seen before, and listening to all of that magnificent music – it was a joy, and an experience I'll always treasure."

An October 10 British release date for a CD and home video version of the movie was also announced.

There is no word of a U.S. release date for those products or a corresponding photo book as of yet.

It's already been a big day in Beatles news here at Ultimate Classic Rock. The Beatles topped a list of the 10 Most Popular Classic Rock Bands on Facebook, and Harrison's surviving bandmates both denied they would reunite at the 2012 London Olympics.
