Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen is reportedly doing well after undergoing emergency surgery for diverticulitis. According to the band's official Facebook page, the guitar great was suffering from a severe bout of the condition and underwent surgery to alleviate the pain.

Diverticulitis is defined by WebMD as what happens when pouches form in the wall of the colon and get inflamed or infected. Symptoms can include belly pain, fever and chills, bloating, gas, and nausea. The group's statement on this scary development reads as follows:

Eddie Van Halen underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis. No further surgeries are needed and a full recovery is expected within 4 - 6 months.

Van Halen's scheduled November 2012 tour of Japan is currently being rescheduled and the band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013.

Earlier this year, Van Halen first postponed and then later cancelled the final 30 dates of their North American tour. David Lee Roth issued an amusing video stating that this schedule change was the result of the group biting off more than they could chew in booking an excessive tour schedule.
