Bob Dylan has added new dates to a U.S. summer tour that will see him playing mostly amphitheaters. The July and August concerts will mark the first stateside shows for Dylan in 2011.

The folk-rock legend's 2011 U.S. tour kicks off July 14 in Santa Barbara, Calif., and currently is scheduled through an Aug. 20 show in Bangor, Maine. Tickets for several of the shows are currently available, while others will go on sale over the next few days. Click here to purchase tickets.

Dylan, who has already toured Asia and Australia in 2011, is currently in the midst of a European trek that runs through a July 2 gig in Borlange, Sweden.

The veteran singer-songwriter recently penned an open letter defending the set lists at his shows in China. He was criticized by some critics for catering the songs to the requests of the Chinese government, but insisted in the letter that he did not censor his set lists in any way.

Dylan recently turned 70, and we celebrated his birthday with a list of his Top 10 Songs of the Last 20 Years.
