Guns N' Roses' 'Welcome to the Jungle' takes on Montrose's 'Rock Candy' in a West Coast-based round one matchup of our March Riff Madness competition.

After much arguing, we've selected 32 of classic rock's most iconic riffs and paired them off in 16 first-round duels. Over the next five weeks the field will be repeatedly cut in half by your votes, until we theoretically arrive at the most awesome riff in all of rock history.

The West Coast region's first battle features fantastic riffs from two different decades. 'Welcome to the Jungle' is famous as the song that introduced Guns N' Roses to much of the world back in 1987, and remains heavily played on radio and at sporting events to this day.

Montrose is best known as the launching pad for Sammy Hagar's career, but the list of bands who have cited them -- and Ronnie Montrose riffs such as 'Rock Candy' -- as an important influence on their own work is too long to mention here.

So who gets to move on? That's up to you! You can vote once per hour until round one of March Riff Madness closes on Sunday, March 9 at 11:59PM ET. The ultimate winner will be crowned on Tuesday, April 9th at 9AM ET.
