‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ vs. ‘Jailbreak’ – March Riff Madness
The Rolling Stones' ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ takes on Thin Lizzy’s ‘Jailbreak’ in round one of Ultimate Classic Rock's March Riff Madness competition.
It took some serious debating, but we've selected 32 of classic rock's most iconic riffs and paired them off into 16 first-round duels. Over the next five weeks the field will be repeatedly cut in half by your votes, until we theoretically arrive at the most awesome riff in all of rock history.
This Global Rock region joust pits the world’s greatest rock band against one of its most underrated. The Rolling Stones impacted the history of rock more conclusively than any other act not named Elvis Presley or the Beatles, and though their vast catalog of hits and riffs defies simplification, they don’t come more classic than ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.’
For Thin Lizzy, rock stardom’s holy grail remained frustratingly out of reach for the bulk of their career. But the band’s incredible catalog and leader Phil Lynott’s legend continue to spread posthumously, thanks to unforgettable riffs galore, most notably the one that powers ‘Jailbreak.’
So which of these rock icons of biblical stature — David or Goliath — will come out on top? You can vote once per hour until round one of March Riff Madness closes on Sunday, March 9 at 11:59PM ET. The ultimate March Riff Madness winner will be revealed on Tuesday, April 7.
