Rolling Stones Reveal New Documentary Box Set Contents
Rolling Stones fans, if you're feeling slightly despondent given your apathy regarding the upcoming 2012 Presidental election, we think we've found another reason for you to be sprightly about early November. Just two days before the votes go out -- Nov. 6 -- marks the release date of the band's 'Charlie is My Darling' super deluxe box set, brought to us by ABKCO Films.
The documentary, originally directed by Peter Whitehead, features reportedly the first ever shot film of the Stones, from their 1965 two-day tour of Ireland. It was a time when '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' had just hit No. 1 on the charts, making the young innocents rock stars throughout the world.
Assembled by Grammy winners Robin Klein and Mick Gochanour, the set features intimate encounters, interviews, writing sessions and live footage from the boys' trip to Ireland. Both DVD and Blu-ray discs are included, depicting a brand new 65-minute remastered 2012 version of the original film (which was never released) and adding to it unseen performances, interviews and more.
The set also includes two audio discs; the film's soundtrack and well as a compilation of 13 live, unreleased recordings from their 1965 UK tour. There's also a vinyl record of the live material, a 40-page collectors book, a replicated 1965 Ireland tour poster, and essays by noted music critic David Fricke and Irish musician Glenn Hansard.
The world premiere takes place on Sept. 29 at the 50th New York Film Festival, with an encore screening set for Oct. 3. Also, Oct. 5 will see a screening and Q&A session with Stones manager/producer Andrew Loog Oldham, hosted by Steven Van Zandt at New York's 92 Street YMCA.
It seems the Rolling Stones are celebrating their 50th anniversary of being a band with a bang, having also recently released the trailer for a career-spanning documentary, 'Crossfire Hurricane,' which premieres in London on Oct. 18.
