Jimmy Page Sets Two Speaking Engagements Ahead of Led Zeppelin Reissues
Even as he oversees a massive re-release of the first three Led Zeppelin albums, Jimmy Page has announced a pair of speaking engagements on opposite sides of the ocean.
The first event takes place in Boston on Saturday, May 9, at the Agannis Arena. Page will serve as commencement speaker for the Berklee College of Music, and will also be given an honorary doctorate. Berklee, of course, has a long history of producing award-winning graduates from its music program -- including Steely Dan's Donald Fagan (1966), Aerosmith's Joey Kramer (1971) and Steve Vai (1979).
The second Page engagement takes place at Paris' L'Olympia on Wednesday, May 21. The invitation-only event will be the first chance for fans to hear selections from previously unreleased companion audio discs that will be included in the Zeppelin reissues, due on June 3. Page will provide the audience insight into the selection and background of the bonus audio chosen for each album.
Led Zeppelin has set up a website where hopeful fans can enter for a chance to gain entry to the invitation-only event, or submit a question for Page to answer during the Paris event. If you're not one of the lucky ones chosen to attend, the Paris talk will be streamed on Led Zeppelin's YouTube channel, starting at 8:30 CET on Wednesday, May 21.
There is some historical significance to the L'Olympia, by the way: One of the reissue companion discs features a 1969 concert recorded at the same venue.
