Jackyl Frontman to Bono and Bruce Springsteen: ‘Shut Your F—ing Mouths’
Rock and politics have a long history together, but as far as Jackyl frontman Jesse James Dupree is concerned, once you strap on that guitar, you should keep your political opinions to yourself.
Dupree weighed in on the subject during a recent appearance on CBS Radio's SixX Strings, telling host Shawn Sixx that as far as he's concerned, using one's music as a political forum is "anti-rock." Explaining that he definitely isn't averse to rockers doing charity work, he made a distinction (via Blabbermouth) between good works and "holier than thou" pontificating.
"People don't wanna hear politics from Jackyl," said Dupree. "At the end of the day, I'm just in a rock 'n' roll band. But my stance is not necessarily politics; it's more or less to tell Bono and Bruce Springsteen, 'Shut your f---ing mouths, you f---ing self-indulgent c---suckers. Bruce Springsteen standing there, rattling off about Trump. ... I don't need to hear it from Bruce Springsteen. Bruce just needs to sing f---ing 'Born To Run' and shut the f--- up."
While taking pains to point out he enjoys a little Springsteen music as much as the next guy, Dupree also made it clear he's more than willing to have this conversation face-to-face. "If he don't like me saying that, Bruce, I live in Kennesaw, Ga.," he added. "I'd be glad to meet up with you anytime. F--- you! And I like some of the Bruce Springsteen songs ... for a minute. I mean, I'm not slagging on Bruce Springsteen or his fans. But I'm saying, I don't wanna hear him talk about politics."
