Details of Gregg Allman's Southern Blood album are slowly coming to the surface — including the set's release date and first single, "My Only True Friend."

The posthumous LP, set for release Sept. 8 and available to pre-order now. Fans can hear their first glimpse of the collection, "My Only True Friend," below.

As previously reported, the album was a strong focus for Allman during the months and weeks leading up to his death earlier this year — and the sessions served as a sort of homecoming, finding him recording with his touring band at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals. With producer Don Was behind the boards, Allman tracked the new songs with a core lineup that included drummer Steve Potts and bassist Ron Johnson, percussionist Marc Quinones, keyboardist Peter Levin and a horn section featuring saxophonists Jay Collins and Art Edmaiston and trumpeter Marc Franklin. The sessions also included appearances from local legends like keyboardist Spooner Oldham, bassist David Hood and Jackson Browne.

You can see the track listing for the album below.

Guitarist Scott Sharrard served as a key component of the crew that helped assemble Southern Blood, both as a player and a composer. Sharrard, who served as Allman's musical director for nearly a decade, worked alongside Was to complete the tracks after Allman's death, and as he told NJ Arts, the final product includes one of his songs, "Love Like Kerosene," as well as a co-write with Allman, "My Only True Friend."

"We performed it live one time, but I honestly think … I didn’t press Gregg too hard on it, but I think the song was very personal for him, and I think he had a hard time performing it live, because of the nature of that," said Sharrard. "But I know that he really loved the song, and he was proud of the work we did together on it. So I think it will be a centerpiece of the record."

The raw emotion captured in "My Only True Friend" seems like it's reflective of the entire record, which includes performances Allman might have tried to perfect if he'd lived longer, but stand as a warts-and-all testament to a singular talent. "All the vocals were cut live on the floor, and I think Gregg wanted to redo them, but we didn’t get that chance, because of his illness," Sharrard added. "But I can tell you that the stuff that I have — the roughs and a couple of the final mixes — sounds just spectacular."
