Director Duncan Jones made a name for himself with smart, low-budget sci-fi like his 2009 breakthrough effort Moon — and even though he's currently at the helm of a $100 million-plus film adaptation of the hit video game Warcraft, he hasn't lost his indie vision.

While wending his way through production toward Warcraft's June 10, 2016, release date, Jones has already started lining up another project: Mute, a movie described by Deadline as one of Jones' most "long-cherished" ideas.

Set in Berlin 40 years in the future, Mute envisions "a science-fiction Casablanca" in which a mute bartender (played by True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård) ventures into the city's seedy shadows in search of his disappeared girlfriend, aided by "an odd pair of American surgeons" (one will be played by Ant-Man's Paul Rudd). As Jones explained in a statement, it's a story he's been waiting more than a decade to tell.

"I’ve been working toward making Mute for 12 years now. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that we’re finally going to shoot this utterly unique film," said Jones. "The fact that I get to make it with Alexander Skarsgard and Paul Rudd makes it all the more exciting! Mute is a film that will last. It is unlike any other science-fiction being made today."

While Jones juggles a pair of projects, his dad, David Bowie, has his own increasingly busy schedule to attend to. As previously reported, Bowie's set to release his next studio album, titled Blackstar, early next year, and he's also contributing to an upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants musical while also working on another stage show, Lazarus, based on based on Walter Tevis' 1963 novel The Man Who Fell to Earth.

As Jones begins rounding out his Mute cast, the lengthy promotional campaign for Warcraft is just getting started; earlier this week, the movie's studio, Legendary, posted the first 15-second teaser for the film, which you can check out below.
