Listen to a Live Version of Chicago’s ’25 or 6 to 4′: Exclusive Premiere
Chicago will release a new CD and DVD called Chicago II: Live on Soundstage on June 29. We have an exclusive premiere of a new version of "25 or 6 to 4" from that performance that you can check out below.
The Soundstage program, which has currently been airing on PBS, was recorded at WTTW's studio in Chicago and features the band's second album performed in its entirety. That episode will also be included on Chicago II: Collector's Edition, a box set to be released on Aug. 31 that contains the original album on CD and vinyl remastered by Steven Wilson.
Released in 1970, Chicago II is also known as Chicago and was their first record after they changed their name from Chicago Transit Authority. In addition to "25 or 6 to 4," which peaked at No. 4, the album contained two other Top 10 hits: "Make Me Smile" and "Colour My World," both of which were taken from trombonist James Pankow's "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon" song cycle. The album went double-platinum and was nominated for three Grammys, including Album of the Year.
The band is now touring with REO Speedwagon and playing the Chicago II album in full, followed by a set of its best-known songs. They'll remain on the road through Aug. 12. You can see all the dates here and the track listing for the Live on Soundstage set below.
