The title of Brian Wilson’s upcoming album, No Pier Pressure, suggests that he’s under no obligation to recreate the classic Beach Boys sound. But for the first single, “The Right Time,” he’s brought back a couple of his old bandmates to help him out.

As you can see in the above video, Al Jardine takes the lead vocal on the verses while Wilson adds his trademark falsetto harmonies on the choruses. David Marks, who briefly replaced Jardine in the Beach Boys from 1962-3 and occasionally rejoined them on tour, also contributes to the song. In addition, session pros Don Was (bass), Dean Parks (guitar) and Jim Keltner (drums) are seen in the video.

No Pier Pressure will be released on April 7. The album is Wilson’s first collection of solo material since 2008’s That Lucky Old Sun, and features contributions from the members of She & Him, Nate Reuss of fun. and country singer Kacey Musgraves. You can listen to samples of the other 15 songs at Google Play.

The record is currently available for pre-order at iTunes, where fans will receive an immediate download of “The Right Time.” The merchandise section of Wilson’s website has special bundles available, including a hand-signed lithograph and a surfboard.

Back in December, Wilson played a special concert at the Venetian in Las Vegas that included songs from No Pier Pressure and many of his Beach Boys classics. It's expected to air on public television and the AXS network later this year.
