Brian Wilson Unveils Artwork for New LP, Announces Special Concert
Brian Wilson has big plans for 2015.
The Beach Boys founder took to Twitter to reveal the title and artwork for his next solo album, 'No Pier Pressure.' According to Wilson, the new disc will arrive in stores sometime during spring 2015; he's promising "more info" after the first of the year.
Meanwhile, ABC News Radio reports that Wilson has scheduled a Dec. 12 taping date for a special show to be held at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, where he'll perform songs from 'No Pier Pressure' alongside "classic Beach Boys tunes and other selections from his solo catalog." He'll be joined by an eclectic array of guests that includes fun. singer Nate Ruess and distinguished trumpeter/soundtrack composer Mark Isham, as well as Beach Boys alums Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar.
'No Pier Pressure' serves as Wilson's first new set of original solo material since 2008's 'That Lucky Old Sun,' a California song cycle that reunited him with old partner Van Dyke Parks. In the interim, he's released a set of Gershwin covers, an album of Disney songs and 2012's Beach Boys reunion record 'That's Why God Made the Radio.' As previously reported, Wilson enlisted a number of guest artists during the sessions for what eventually became 'Pier,' including Jeff Beck; personnel details for the final album aren't yet known, but recent reports suggest that Beck's contributions will not be used.
The Las Vegas concert is scheduled to air on public television and the AXS network sometime next year. In the meantime, you can watch a short clip -- which he posted on his Facebook page -- of Wilson rehearsing for the show below,
