Steven Tyler and Joe Perry Rework ‘Dream On’ For ABC Special on Boston Bombings
Steven Tyler and Joe Perry will present a new version of the 1973 hit 'Dream On,' recorded in honor of the victims of bombings at Aerosmith's hometown Boston Marathon, during an hour-long special that will air this Saturday on ABC.
"Dream On: Stories from Boston's Strongest," will be broadcast again on ESPN as part of their 'E:60' news magazine series on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of the attacks. Three people were killed and more than 260 injured when a pair of hand-made explosives went off near the marathon finish line in 2013.
A No. 6 hit for Aerosmith in 1976, three years after its initial release, 'Dream On' was the band's breakthrough single. In this new version, Tyler and Perry are joined by the Southern California Children's Chorus. That's fitting, since Tyler said in his autobiography that the song's chords were inspired by listening to his Julliard-trained father play classical music on the piano. Aerosmith performed 'Dream On' at a benefit concert for the victims in Boston held last May.
