Steven Adler Show Canceled, Whisky A Go-Go Promises ‘Big Announcement’
This could easily turn out to be nothing, let's get that out of the way right up front.
But, a Steven Adler show reportedly scheduled for April 1 at Los Angeles' famed Sunset Strip club Whisky A Go-Go has been canceled. The reason that's potentially newsworthy is that the venue's tweet goes on to promise that "a big announcement" is coming soon, and then tags Adler's former band, Guns N' Roses. The tweet also features a cartoon of Adler's skull circa Appetite for Destruction with a big red line drawn through it.
Obviously, we're meant to at least consider the possibility that this upcoming announcement could be related to Guns N' Roses, who will play six shows next month with founding members Slash and Duff McKagan returning to perform alongside singer Axl Rose.
So far, there's been no indication that Adler will participate in these shows. Last September, Adler suggested that at least one of his former bandmates doesn't believe he has truly sobered up enough to be trusted on tour. But if Guns N' Roses were going to plan a surprise club show – which, again, they haven't confirmed or even hinted at – we guess it makes sense that they would do so in their former West Hollywood stomping grounds.
Now, onto reasons we should take this wildly speculative theory with a big grain of salt. First, the date of this canceled show is April 1 – April Fool's Day. Second, unless it's been removed (rather than corrected), the original Adler show wasn't previously mentioned on his official website, Twitter account or Facebook page. All we can find is a tweet from the Whisky back on Feb. 25. That doesn't mean the show wasn't really going to happen, and it's possible the venue tagged Guns N' Roses on tonight's tweet – as they did on that earlier post – simply because Adler used to be in Guns N' Roses.
