Southern rock kings ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd are set to hit the road together for a U.S. trek. The Rebels & Bandoleros Tour kicks off May 12 in Wichita, Kan., and is currently scheduled through a May 29 gig in Orange Beach, Ala.

While the two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acts have been frequent tour mates over the years, it's been a while since they've joined forces for a trek. "Eleven years ago, we toured together for 11 months straight," says Skynyrd singer Johnny Van Zant in a press release. "We love the guys in ZZ and their music, and can't wait to get back out on the road with them."

ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, meanwhile, points to the friendship between the two groups as a driving force behind the jaunt. "Rebels and Bandoleros is more of a coming together of friends than a mere tour," explains the singer-guitarist. "We're delighted to be hitting the road with our Skynyrd brethren once more. It's going to be a great ride."

Skynyrd will be touring in support of their 2009 album, 'God & Guns,' while ZZ Top are currently recording the long-awaited follow-up to 2003's 'Mescalero.' With a bevy of classic hits expected from both bands' sets, Van Zant guarantees that concertgoers will get their money's worth. "This show is an event that the fans are going to love," he asserts. "Two legendary bands in one night -- what more can the fans ask for to kick off the summer of 2011!"
