Downing calls his former band's quickly scrapped single-guitar lineup idea "insulting."

“I just couldn’t leave everything that I am and that I’ve worked for," former Judas Priest guitarist says.

Band's former guitarist favored the "darker" side of the band's songwriting and also wished for it to be "more meaningful."

"We never had the luxury of doing two albums in 10 years when I was in the band," group's former guitarist says.

"You have to listen to the fans, really," notes band's former guitarist.

The band, which also features Tim "Ripper" Owens, will release its debut album on Aug. 20.
