Watch Lyric Video for Ronnie Montrose’s ‘Color Blind': Premiere
Featuring vocals by Sammy Hagar and guitar work from Steve Lukather, "Color Blind" is one of the more star-studded cuts on Ronnie Montrose's posthumous 10x10 album — and now the song has its own lyric video, making its official premiere right here.
As previously reported, the 10x10 LP was a definite labor of love for Montrose's collaborator on the project, Styx bassist Ricky Phillips, who helped the guitarist refine the concept of the album — lining up a series of guest singers for the sessions — and worked on completing it for years after Montrose died in 2012.
"We just want to make sure Ronnie’s well represented and it’s done the way he would want it done. That’s the whole focus," Phillips told Ultimate Classic Rock after Montrose's death. "Not the way we want it done, but the way he would have had it done."
The "Color Blind" lyric video is the second song to make its way off the 10x10 album, following the September release of lead-off track "Heavy Traffic," which features appearances from Mr. Big singer Eric Martin and Y&T guitarist Dave Meniketti.
While Montrose fans no doubt miss his distinctive lead playing — and are understandably saddened by the reality that this marks his final studio release — Phillips stands proudly behind the end result; as he argued in the press release announcing the LP, he feels the songs retain "the fire and angst of a young rebel, but with some added wisdom and foresight voiced in his own unique language of ‘guitar-speak.’"
