Third Annual Ronnie James Dio Cancer Charity Event Adds Classic Rockers to Celebrity Bowling Tournament
A growing roster of classic rockers is lining up to take to the lanes in tribute to Ronnie James Dio at this year's Bowl for Ronnie charity event.
The bowling tournament, set to take place Oct. 6 at the Pinz Bowling Center in Studio City, Calif., marks the third annual edition of the fundraiser, which benefits the Ronnie JamesDio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund. The organization, entering its eighth year, is "dedicated to support research and education that furthers early detection, prevention and treatment of prostate, colon and stomach cancers," helping raise awareness of — and fund treatment for — the disease that claimed the singer's life in 2010.
According to a press release, returning champions Tom Morello, Jeff Scott Soto, John 5 and Rock Feinstein are expected to return for the celebrity bowling tournament; alongside those appearances, this year's Bowl for Ronnie will also feature involvement from a number of musicians, including ex-Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler, Whitesnake vet Brian Tichy and a number of former Dio members.
Hoping to exceed last year's fundraising total of $36,500, organizers will be opening eBay auctions next week for spots on the two bowling teams; one side will be captained by KLOS on-air personality Gary Moore, with the other headed up by reigning Bowl for Ronnie team captain Eddie Trunk. In addition to a spot on a team, auction winners can expect red carpet entry to the event and access to a VIP party.
Bowl for Ronnie tickets, on sale now, start at $50 for an individual spectator pass, which includes pizza; those who wish to bowl in non-tournament lanes can pick up a pass for an additional $25, which includes shoe rental and two and a half hours of bowling.
