John Lodge Talks New Moody Blues DVD and Rock Hall Nomination
The Moody Blues' ongoing 50th anniversary celebration for their landmark Days of Future Passed LP will include a new live DVD of the album being performed in concert, due in stores before the end of the year.
As bassist John Lodge explained during a recent interview with Q103, the show was recorded during this year's Days of Future Passed 50th anniversary tour, which found the band performing the album's track listing — occasionally with added support from a local orchestra, which was the case when they filmed the upcoming Days DVD.
"It's been a fantastic year," Lodge said of the tour. "We played the Hollywood Bowl with the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra, and the second half of our concert has been Days of Future Passed in its entirety. We went up to Toronto to the Sony Centre there in Toronto with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and we recorded the live full version of Days of Future Passed. That's going to be released around Christmastime on DVD."
That release will arrive after an expanded anniversary edition of the original album, which is set to arrive Nov. 17 and is available to pre-order now. It's a particularly busy season for Lodge, who's booked for a solo U.S. tour in support of his 2015 album 10,000 Light Years Ago — and his new live release, John Lodge: Live from Birmingham — The 10,000 Light Years Tour. In the midst of all that activity, the members of the Moody Blues are also dealing with the excitement of being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
"It's a great honor," said Lodge of the nomination. "I've no idea how any of these things are, but the fans have been such great supporters of the Moody Blues from day one. We're all part of the Moody Blues, the fans as well, and I'm really happy for the fans that we've been nominated. I think it's a great honor that we've been nominated, because it means our music must have touched someone on the Rock Hall of Fame committee, or however it's done out there for them to come forward and say 'Let's nominate the Moody Blues.' I have to thank them for that. It does give me a tingle up my spine when I think of the fans who've taken the time to vote for us."
