The newly re-released single-disc version of the Jimi Hendrix Experience live album 'Winterland' is available for free streaming right now courtesy of Radio.com. Winterland is the historic ballroom Hendrix played in San Francisco at the height of his career in 1968. These recordings capture the guitarist in action during those three nights.

Long gone are the days of radio disc jockeys keeping us tuned in to our transistors by offering single tracks every hour on the hour. Radio.com is streaming this live album in full-length song form instead. It’s classic rock by means of cyberspace, and Jimi has never sounded better.

This particular recording is so crystal clear that if it weren't for Hendrix occasionally addressing the audience one might forget this is a live recording. Though many artists have tried to mimic Hendrix, not a soul has come close and hearing ‘Winterland’ is a validation of that.

He makes Bob Dylan’s ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ sound like he composed it, interpreting it with pure gypsy molten soul, as if it were dripping from his fingertips. It’s live Hendrix, it’s free and seriously, it doesn't get much better than this.

Though ‘Winterland’ is available to purchase as a 4 CD or 8 LP boxed set, this audio stream spotlights the one disc version. Another long out of print Hendrix live album, 'In the West,' was also recently released, and you can read our review of that fine concert document right here.
