Watch James Corden Compete With Adam Lambert in Queen Sing-Off
It's one thing to sing on TV, but going toe-to-toe with the guy who's currently at the mic for Queen takes a special kind of courage.
Late-night host James Corden did just that during last night's episode of his Late Late Show, facing off against Queen singer Adam Lambert in a tongue-in-cheek competition to determine who's better qualified to lead the band. With guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor backing them both up, the duo ran through the Queen classics "We Will Rock You," "Don’t Stop Me Now," "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Somebody to Love."
The Late Late Show segment, which you can watch above, is part of the promotional push for Queen's recently announced North American tour, which is scheduled to begin in late June and continue through early August. Lambert recently spoke with Time about the challenges of filling in for beloved late frontman Freddie Mercury, admitting that while it was once "intimidating" to perform with Queen, it's gotten easier over the years — and the audience's warm reception has allowed him to loosen up and have fun with the material.
"A handful of the songs in the set are absolutely ridiculous — high camp. Because the audience already loves the song, I know I can push it as far as I want. It’s the most liberating thing," said Lambert. "I wonder, whatever happened to watching an artist and having them make you laugh? Where is that in music? In the ‘70s and ‘80s, there was a lot of that. It was over the top. They weren’t taking themselves that seriously."
