The death of guitarist Ronnie Montrose brought an outpouring of grief and fond memories from both his peers and fans yesterday. We thought it might be nice to focus on the music Montrose left behind with a special readers' poll dedicated to his career today.

Of course, Montrose is best known for the influential 1973 debut self-titled album by his namesake band, which featured none other than Sammy Hagar on vocals. (Sammy wrote his own tribute to Ronnie yesterday as well.)

But he was an in-demand session guitarist before that and a self-directed musical explorer afterwards, so we took care to include songs from his years fronting the more progressive outfit Gamma and working under his own full name as well. Be sure to let us know which Ronnie Montrose song you like the best!
