Guitarist for the groundbreaking heavy metal band Slayer, passed away on May 2 at the age of 49. A founding member of the band, Hanneman's style was the blueprint for nearly every thrash metal band that followed in their footsteps. Liver failure was cited as the ultimate cause of death. In 2011, Hanneman had contracted necrotizing fasciitis, a rapidly progressing disease that literally eats away at the flesh from deep layers of skin and tissue. Due to this, he had been off the road since 2011.  He is survived by his wife Kathy, sister Kathy and brothers Michael and Larry,
