Legendary drummer for Johnny Carson's 'Tonight Show' band passed away on May 24 after suffering a heart attack. He was 84. Best known for his 30+ years as the 'Tonight Show' band drummer, Shaughnessy backed everyone from Tony Bennett to Jimi Hendrix on the show. He was a drummer to be reckoned with, holding his own against the greats of the era including Buddy Rich, who he famously had drum battles with on the Carson show.
