Lee Dorman, bassist for the legendary Iron Butterfly, died at his home on Friday, Dec. 21. He was 70 years old. Dorman joined Iron Butterfly before the release of their breakthrough album, 1968′s ‘In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.' He remained with the band through their breakup in 1971, playing on the follow up albums 'Ball' and 'Metamorphosis.' After the band split, he formed Captain Beyond, who had a more progressive rock sound. Dorman rejoined the Butterfly in the late '70s and remained part of the group (with a couple of breaks) over the next thirty years.
