Get ready to turn it up to 11, metal-heads! VH1 Classic has declared Nov. 11, 2011 (11-11-11), as National Metal Day. The music channel will celebrate with 11 days of broadcasting devoted to the hard-rock genre.

The highlight of the programming will be an 11-part series from Banger Films titled 'Metal Evolution,' which documents the history of heavy metal. The premiere episode will center on 'pre-metal' acts like Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Other editions will concentrate on such topics as British heavy metal, glam metal and thrash metal. The first episode of 'Metal Evolution' will air at 10PM ET on Nov. 11, with subsequent editions airing every Friday night after that.

"Nobody is more metal than VH1 Classic," said VH1 Classic Ben Zurier, EVP Programming Strategy, VH1 & VH1 Classic, in a statement. "Celebrating National Metal Day on 11-11-11 gives us a platform to honor metal artists, and take metal music one step further than anybody has before."

Other various programs during the 11-day period from Nov. 1 through Nov. 11 will focus on concerts and specials involving Black Sabbath, Metallica, Judas Priest and other bands. In addition, 'Behind the Music Remastered: Megadeth' will premiere at 9PM ET on Nov. 11.
